Driving Safely on Prince of Wales Island
The main cause of flat tires and accidents here is speed. The vehicles drive better on dirt roads than ever before, sometimes giving you a false sense of security.

The tires you will be driving on, although top quality, will NOT keep you on the road if speeds are excessive. With this in mind, please take extra care.

Another potential problem is following too closely to another vehicle. The dust that is created by that vehicle is thick and visibility is poor.

Driving with your head lights on is a good habit. It helps other drivers see you, especially on the roads with limited traffic.

If your adventure takes you to some of our older roads, please consider walking in first. These roads are often overgrown with trees and usage is not recommended for the public. You may be putting yourself at significant risk of being stranded in our Alaskan wilderness without means of obtaining help.

Please be aware that effective March 18, 2003, Wilderness Car Rental & Repair will no longer offer extra car rental insurance to our customers.

The customer is responsible for contacting their insurance agent to verify that vehicle rental insurance is part of their policy. If it is not part of your policy you will need to add it to your policy or we will be unable to rent a vehicle to you. If you do have an accident you will be 100% responsible for the damage to the vehicle and for loss of use.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but due to increased claims on our insurance we are not able to offer this service.
